Yeah. Some of it's technology that it's available in my time, but we're never gonna use machines and such to develop trees like this. The technology's easier to wrap my head around.

I agree--it's easier to know that they are making things from bits and pieces of other things than to just have it...appear. And just be. Made out of nothing but ones will.

But it's kind of fantastic in that way. [ She leans forward a little, waving one hand] There's so much potential there. Here. If Zephyr can just make whatever you wish for, the sky is the limit. Well--purrobably not. I imagine there is a limit to their power. Taking requests on bringing people for instance. But they haven't seemed to have said no to the most ridiculous ideas.

[devoutish]

From what I understand, the bringing people is random, yeah. They can't see who we are before they grab us; something like that.

[He sounds just a little wistful, but is keeping most of that in check.]

[furgood]

At least you managed to come in with Royce. I know it's hard to be separated from people you care about.

[devoutish]

I don't know what I'd do without him here.

[He says, very honestly.]

[furgood]

[Soft smile ]

I'm happy for you two.

[devoutish]

Well, we're not together, of course. Yeah.

[furgood]

[Well that crosses romantically entangled off the list. For now. Though in denial is still a possibility--but she's probably reading too much into it. Stop that. ]

Sorry, you two remind me of my best friends--they weren't a couple until they sort of were. They were close like you two and... [She shrugs with a little flush] I thought he was upset I was intruding to be honest.

[devoutish]

You're a stranger. He's like that around strangers, sometimes.

[furgood]

No--I completely understand. I just thought that when I figured--I'm putting my foot in my mouth aren't I? [She takes a big gulp of tea, finishing it off, and sets it to the side]

[devoutish]

[He's trying really hard not to grin, though he doesn't mean it in a mocking or condescending way.]

You're not, no. Really, don't worry about it.

[furgood]

[Now she wishes she hadn't finished off her tea quite so fast, because it had been nice to have something to hide her faux pas behind. She twists a curl around her finger. Her cheeks must be burning. ]

I'm just usually good at this. That. Telling. [God. She pulls her hand free of her hair and flings them both out in a stop motion] Alright, conversation reset. I'm really happy for you that you have a platonic friend here with you. People aren't always lucky enough for that. There, a purrfectly acceptable response, I feel.

[devoutish]

[Platonic friend makes him chuckle, though again, it's not done meanly.]

I won't bore you with singing Royce's praises, though I could.

[Platonic or not, he really loves that man.

He raises his teacup like it's a wine glass.]

To old friends, eh? And to new ones, of course.

[Just a teeny tiny bit of maybe-flirting there.]

[furgood]

[She beams a brilliant smile and raises her empty cup]

To old friends and new!

WHOOPS I forgot he mentioned that earlier in the thead

Ah, you're out - here.

[He stands, grabbing his cane to lean on as he walks back into the kitchen to get the teapot.]

Would you like something to eat? Biscuits? We've got that Chinese food too, as well; the noodles. It's marvelous.

you're fine!

[furgood]

Oh--I could get it!

[She swivels in her seat, half to just follow his speech and half in an effort to rise, to help]

I--really you don't have to go to such effort, you know? [It's not admonishing, more like laughter in her voice at his effort. His hospitality is sweet]

[devoutish]

[Alfie is a complete dickwad, but he can be a charming and charismatic dickwad - even genuinely so, not just as a trick. Here, he's being genuine.]

I'm walking into the kitchen, that's all. You're the guest; I'm not gonna make you help.

[He tries to talk over his shoulder as best he can, though she might miss a few words here and there, depending on how good she is at filling in the blanks.]

And it's for me, as well. I like biscuits; I like Chinese food. Never ate it at home. Weren't any restaurants for it in my neighborhood.

[furgood]

[Meulin certainly wouldn't classify himself as anything like that. As it is, she's charmed really. Tucking her legs up under her, as she tries to keep herself face to face with him, she drapes her arms over the back of the chair and rests her chin on her folded hands. ]

I'm going to make you come over now and not let you help at all, I hope you know that. [She does miss a few things, to be honest, but she hopes it's not the important things.] I think the biscuits might go better with your tea. The noodles go better with something lighter.

[devoutish]

[He nods, and brings over some scones and wafer-style cookies- the sort of thing he'd had back at his own place, and therefore the sort of thing Zephyr had seen fit to provide him with on arrival.]

Have you got things like this in your house? Things that remind you of home?

[furgood]

[Meulin decides on one of the wafer cookies, mostly because its tempting to pull it apart into its little layers. She pulls the top bit off to eat it and then feels a little silly, taking a little more normal sort of bite. ]

Plenty of things. There's special flour to make the kind of bread we liked in Four. It tastes delicious...I have all my pictures and clippings and things. It's less food and more atmosphere? But when I get some fish and make a few loaves--its like home.

[devoutish]

And so if I come to visit, you'll show me this bread and fish, mm? I bake bread too, you know.

[furgood]

Bread, fish, maybe I'll throw in some fresh fruit and vegetables to give you the full District Four scavenging experience. [Her smile is teasing] But is your bread purroper bread?

[devoutish]

I dunno, what's proper bread?

[furgood]

Well I like mine with the little bits of seaweed. So a little salty, a little briny, with sweet butter on it. Maybe some fruit preserves. So you get sweet and salty, it's so nice...

[devoutish]

Butter and fruit, yes. Seaweed, no. I suppose that's not proper bread, is it.

[He sits back down and grabs a scone for himself.]
