Both. For different reasons. I don't know Navarro very well. But I think Royce doesn't like to make such things public.

He was affectionate with him at Rosh Hashanah. It surprised me a bit.

He was? I wasn't even paying-- and he made a face when I kissed your cheek and everything.

[devoutish]

[Alfie chuckles.]

He's getting better.

I'm gonna kiss it again next dinner too. Deal with it.

[With the arm that's not holding the picnic things, he snags her elbow, pulling her in to kiss her on the mouth.]

[A laugh bubbles up in her as she kisses back] Approval of my dastardly plans?

[devoutish]

Poor Royce. He doesn't even know right now you're planning on making him uncomfortable.

He doesn't really disapprove of you, you know.

He doesn't really know me and strangers are... well strangers until proven otherwise, I imagine.

[He gently prods her down off the path, leading them along the lakeside.]

I think he likes that I've got someone like you, is what I mean.

[Some of her attention is pushed to not tripping over roots and rocks]

Oh that. I got that impression. He wanted to make sure I wasn't going to-- abandon you. Or something like that.

He worries too much. My heart's not as tender as he thinks.

I figure you wouldn't be broken forever or some nonsense but. It was sweet. He wanted to be sure I wouldn't hurt you.

Besides, I've no plans to wander off on you.

[devoutish]

Yeah, but we've talked about this, and if you were to find a man who wanted to do the proper thing and settle down with you--

[He cares about her happiness, but as a 1920s dude, he leans towards assuming that her happiness includes an eventual husband, kids, and a white picket fence.]

Hey. [She turns and grasps his hand in both of hers ] I'm not-- it's not always the right thing, you know, I'm a hopeless romantic and I love seeing people romantically happy and weddings are great but-- I'm not here to marry you. You don't want it and I'm not sure I even want that. My last relationship has... soured that idea. But I'm not-- I'm getting turned around.

It might be your idea of what should be done but that's your idea that you keep bringing up and I don't know if this-- whatever we have-- bothers you. Being in a relationship that won't lead to the traditional commitments.

[devoutish]

It doesn't bother me. I worry that it'll bother you, eventually.

[He hesitates.]

Do I really bring it up that much?

No it's just... the way you said it. Like this is the wrong thing. [She lets go, raising her hands a little in an exaggerated shrug ]

[devoutish]

I'm used to women who would want that, eventually. Who might think, "Well, he's saying this now, because that's how men are, but I can make him change his mind".

I'll try to worry less, eh?

I'm not trying to change your mind. About anything.
