I don't not eat deer meat. Just don't have much of it.

[Meulin follows, hands clasped behind her back] They're difficult to bring down. By myself at least. Are you alright?

[devoutish]

An octopus tried to eat me.

[He says, his tone almost cheerful as he opens the fridge and pulls out the fixings for deer meat sandwiches.]

But I'm difficult to bring down, myself.

[furgood]

One got a hold of me but it looks like they got a better grip on you.[She reaches up and Pat's his shoulder] Wait, you went in? What was your form like?

[devoutish]

Only the once, yeah. I was in the clinic for a bit, after--

[It had really been a bad injury.]

And only just got back on my feet. But I had a tail-- well, most of us had tails, didn't we. Mine was gray and smooth, like a seal's.

[furgood]

[Meulin nods along] Well I wish I had seen it. [Then she blinks and leans in closer]

Wait, just how bad did it get you? You're just now back on your feet? I would have visited you, brought you something to eat.

[devoutish]

[He stops with the sandwiches for a moment to turn to face her, pulling down his collar and showing her the bruising that's still visible around his neck.]

It got my ribs too, but I'm all right now. Just taking things slowly.

[furgood]

Oohh... [Her hand lifts to ghost but not touch as she hisses between her teeth. That looks painful] Around the neck though. I wish you'd told me sooner.

[devoutish]

Well, getting up to walking has been slow. I've only made it as far as your place just recently. I thought about dropping off a letter.

[But then he'd come up with the idea of having Bear deliver it, and it had been too ridiculous to resist.]

[furgood]

As if John or Royce wouldn't have sent a note. Or told me in purrson.

[Eyeroll. She knows better]

I mean, it's your business. And Bear was a adorable messenger and that was cute, so that gives you a few points. But I do care about you.

[devoutish]

I know you do. That's why I'm telling you now.

[furgood]

[She sighs softly but leans in and kisses his cheek] Tell me sooner next time. I'll make you something delicious. A get well cake or something. That fried fish you're so fond of.

[devoutish]

Well, I can't turn that down, can I? I'll ask John, next time. I couldn't send Royce; he's only recently been willing to leave my side.

[He turns to look at her over his shoulder, shooting her a wink.]

Or I'll send the cat.

[furgood]

[Grin]

Lady would be the least of help. She'd kick off the message and come beg for fish with those big eyes of hers.

Not very conducive to spoiling you.

[devoutish]

And do you give her fish? No wonder she's fatter than normal.

[She's absolutely not; he's just teasing.]

[furgood]

When she looks at you with those eyes that say you must be starving her here, am I supposed to say no? Every cat deserves some fish. Or they'll try to steal it out of your bucket.

[devoutish]

That's when you do this--

[He mimes lightly swatting something away.]

I love that you think that actually works. Cats bend to no one and nothing.

[Grin] Except the hand that feeds them. Sometimes.

[devoutish]

Oi. Lady listens to me.

[furgood]

When she wants to. I won't deny she loves you but listening to you is a whole other situation.

[devoutish]

[Well, he can't deny that...]

That's cats for you. It's why I've always had dogs.

[furgood]

I grew up around cats. You get a lot of them around docks and things. Beggars and thieves the lot of them but sweethearts. I used to sneak things to them.

You belong to cats more than the other way around. I always kind of liked that.

[devoutish]

I like the loyalty of dogs.

[He admits with a sigh.]

Creatures that would walk through fire for you - I've always liked those. You can trust a dog.

[furgood]

Dogs tend to love everyone unless you're cruel. But cats choose you. It makes me feel special.

[Shrug] It's silly but true. Makes me feel nice that Lady likes me.

[devoutish]

Well, she senses those ridiculous puns of yours, I expect.

[furgood]

Of course, we speak the same language. We are one, she and I. Two halves of the same soul. [Wise nod] ...Don't tell my cats I said that, I'll never hear the end of it.
