I hear it's generally not the best out in the places we're all from. It's nice to have some place that reminds you that things aren't always that...bleak.

What about before that? You were from somewhere else right? Was it like this?

[With his own cup of tea, he sinks down into one of the living room chairs, gesturing for her to take a seat too if she wants.]

London's a city - a very big city. It's crowded and dirty, not much like the country at all. But it's home.

[Gathering up her cup, she settles where it's easy to see him speak and watches him intently ]

It sounds more like a district than... [She pauses and shakes her head ] I suppose I meant more the people, the atmosphere but I understand what you mean. I've seen places like that. Crowded, dirty, not exactly where one might want to live but it's home.

I'd rather live in the city than the countryside, me. Even with the dirt and the air and water you can't drink.

Cities aren't bad. The Capitol was lovely, kept clean and all the things one could want. It was just--built on the wrong things. On other people's backs.

But me, I'd want something in between. The city and the country, some place by the sea, but the life there too. I miss the crowds. All the places to go. Maybe I just want to have everything. Have your cake and eat it too.

Something like this, then. Eh? Out in nature, but with people; a little village. Or is this not crowded enough for your tastes?

I could do with a few places to buy things but this is pretty good as far as places to be snatched up to go. I don't have many complaints all things considered. Aside from how my friend weren't saved as well...

Yeah. You're right, it's very good as far as being snatched goes, but--

[He'd rather not be snatched at all.]

Your friends, though - they might well follow along, at some point or another.

I wish they could be found. I know you don't particularly want to be snatched up but--I think it would be good for them. A world at relative peace. They could use that. We could all use that.

[Her hand twists in a lock of hair for a moment and then she smiles. ]

You know a lot about my world. What was yours like? Your proper world. Is Royce from there as well? You two seem so close.

I met Royce in Norfinbury.

[Only six or so months ago - though, to them, it seems like much longer.]

I'm from a world called Earth - very different from his. It's very big and very habited, compared to others I've heard of. We've got hundreds of countries.

Well, I mean we call our place Earth as well. But I live in Panem. But--hundreds? Where are they even all at? Some must be so very small.

England's one of those, yeah. We've got territories and other lands that we own, but proper England - the bit I live in - is just part of a very small island.

And that's a whole country? Not just part of something else? I can't imagine a single island sustaining itself.

[That makes a little more sense. But honestly, she's lived in a country that has been isolated to the point that she's unsure if there's even more to the world or not. ]

...Of course. I'm sorry, I've never--we don't really have any other countries to trade with? All the moving of resources happens within our own districts.

You've got no other countries at all? You're the only one?

I think...there might have been. Something happened, we had to band together. The oceans rose--but I'm fairly sure we're all that's left.

And you're planet is called Earth. Mm.

[He scratches at his beard, frowning thoughtfully at her. Could she possibly be from far, far into his own Earth's future...?]

Well that's what we call it. [She smiles a little uncertainly ] It probably means nothing. I've learned plenty about the odditys of the worlds. There's a dozen places all somewhat alike. People with the same faces or names from vastly different places.

A troll who lives here has my face. My name, though she goes by something else here. It's...odd. I was called her name once before when I was in Panem. I knew versions of my friends existed as trolls but meeting my own face to face was. Different.

Have you met another one like that?

Never, no. Odd that you're connected to the trolls, though. Have you got any idea why that is?

I'm not entirely sure. They claim I'm a copy, an echo of a life lived there. And it sort of...fits. The people that were--are important to me, they're all there. The main strokes of my life are there. The other one here, she's an echo too, a rewrite, of that life. It's--complicated. Remember I told you I'm a copy of a copy of a troll, the one who invented signing?
